This new Barrie Fire & Emergency Service Station, Station 6, is an important addition to our community. The new fire station, which will be located at 845 Mapleview Drive East, is necessary to enhance the emergency response capabilities and meet the needs of the growing population in Barrie's south-east area.
The new fire station is designed to provide a safe, productive, and effective environment for our firefighting crews. Reflecting our community values, Station 6 will include gender-inclusive living quarters and sustainable design considerations, with all energy provided by electricity and the capability to integrate solar power. The facility will support a crew of five staff per shift and features a garage bay with space for two aerial fire trucks. This station will be built to be efficient and resilient, ensuring it can serve our community effectively for many years to come.
The construction project is being overseen by the City’s Facility Planning and Development Branch in collaboration with the hired construction and consultant team. A dedicated project manager is on the project to ensure that the development stays on schedule and within budget.
After a competitive pre-qualification procurement process, the City has entered into a contract with Verly Construction Group for the construction services of the new Fire Station. The building permit for the facility has been issued, and the construction fence has been installed on site. Site work is now underway.
